Whether you’re a Christian going through a difficult season and are having trouble holding onto your faith. Or whether you are on a path of curiosity about the Christian faith and God – there are many reasons to have faith in God. From personally getting to know the Creator of the universe, to the personal transformation that takes place – it makes for an exciting, eventful life. In this post, I am going to give you 10 reasons to have faith in God.
This post is all about 10 reasons to have faith in God.
#1 – A Purpose For Life
The first in these 10 reasons to have faith in God is that walking with God gives your life so much purpose. Ephesians 1:4-6 says that He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, and that He has predestined us to adoption as sons (and daughters) by Jesus Christ to Himself. What an incredible concept, right?! The Creator of the universe was thinking about you and chose you before He even created this world. You were not an accident. I love how Psalms 139:16 puts it: And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.
You were created on purpose, for a purpose. The days that lie ahead for you are already laid out, and He has a plan for your life! When we live our lives for Him, we can step into this purpose and walk in His will for our lives.
#2 – Hope
One of the biggest things that separates us from the world is the hope that we hold in our hearts. We have hope in His promises. Hope in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour. Hope that we will one day be with Him forever and hope that He is our deliverer and healer.
We can give the world a glimmer of the hope we hold in our hearts through our interactions and conversations with those who don’t yet know Him. This hope can radiate out and make others think, “I want that what she has!” Even to have that hope for their own childrens’ future – hope is a powerful thing.
#3 – Moral Guidance
One of the beauties of the Christian life is the moral aspect of it. God has put in place, through His word, a moral compass for us. These are not “rules” of what we can and cannot do – but rather, they are traits that develop in us as we seek Him. They are traits that reflect Him and His character. And as we pursue Him, we become more like Him. (Ephesians 5:1-2 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us)
It is not about behaviour or expecting to be a transformed person overnight (although I have heard of testimonies where people are radically transformed instantly through supernatural encounters with him eg being set free from drug addiction.), but rather, it is a process.
These morals also help us to live an upright life. For example, if we are running around stealing from people, they are not going to trust us. If we lie to people, we can often be caught out, and people will question whether we are trustworthy.
If I go around gossiping and talking ill about other ladies, others’ might begin to wonder if I also do the same about them behind their backs. Morality is an important factor in our lives for a number of reasons.
#4 – Community And A Sense Of Belonging
There is beautiful community within the Christian world. If you attend a church, they often hold connect groups, or life groups, where you can meet regularly outside of church. This is a great way of building relationships. The Word will often be discussed during these groups, and lots of conversation about life (especially amongst us women!) During times of uncertainty, these people can pray for you, encourage you, and remind you of who you are as a child of God.
#5 – Supernatural Peace
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
Something amazing that happens when you seek God is that you develop a supernatural peace during the storms of life.
Not only will you experience supernatural peace when you live for Him, but the people around you will notice, too. When the world sees you responding to situations in a different manner than the usual panic and unhinged emotion – they notice!
#6 – Personal Growth And Transformation
There is a supernatural transformation that begins to take place when you pursue a life with Jesus.
God encourages us to forgive others when they do the wrong thing by us. And how freeing is to forgive when you feel that the other person doesn’t deserve it. It releases that build-up of bitterness you didn’t even realise was in your heart.
I’ve heard it said that unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die from it. And wow, what a true phrase that is.
There is lots of personal growth involved in the Christian life. God changes our perception of different situations, and we can feel challenged to respond differently. Or how He gives us grace to be more loving towards others when it is a struggle (let’s be honest – sometimes it is a struggle).
When we begin to grasp who we are as His daughters, and what it means to be “set apart”, it changes the way we live. As you seek Him, you may notice that your desire to do certain things you once didn’t see an issue with, becomes smaller and smaller. And that those “fleshly” desires being drowned out by the desire to be like Him as He changes your heart
This process is called sanctification, and it is truly beautiful.
#7 – Develop A Relationship With The Most High God
Christianity is more than just “religion”. Christianity is about having a relationship with God. It’s about knowing Him on a personal level. How do we get to know Him? Through prayer and communing with Him. Reading His word is another way we can get to know Him. His word shows us His character and the things He has done. This can help us feel like we know more about Him more when we come to Him to pray.
What does having a relationship with Him look like? Let me answer by asking you this – what does your relationship with a close friend or spouse in real life look like? Acknowledging them and talking to them, right?! Now imagine if you didn’t and just ignored them when you were with them.
So many Christians don’t acknowledge God in the day to day. It’s the same with Him as a “normal” relationship. We build and grow a relationship with Him through prayer, pursuing Him and reading His word.
#8 – Eternal Promise
One of the promises in the Christian faith is that we will have eternal life with Him. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. When Jesus died and rose again from the grave, He defeated death and enabled us to have eternal life with Him.
This promise means that when our loved ones’ pass away who love Him, we will see them again someday. That our life is not over when we pass, but that it is merely just beginning. This life is our preparation for eternity. And what we do in this life determines what our eternity will be.
Let’s take a look at a couple of scriptures that talk about heaven and eternal life. Matthew 6:20 says, But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal“. And James 1:12 – Believers who maintain their love for Christ receive the Crown of Life. There is definitely some exciting stuff to come when we leave this earth!
#9 – Excitement And Blessing
A Christian life that is led by the Holy Spirit should be exciting. Have you read the book of Acts? The apostles were spreading the gospel and being led by the Holy Spirit. He told them where to go and who to pray for. They witnessed miracles and the power of God.
What an exciting lifestyle! And as you allow yourself to be led by Him, you will see His hand on your life. And you’ll see the incredible things He’s done for you. You will find yourself amazed at the doors He opens for you, and the things He leads you to that will impact world for Him.
#10 – Gratitude
The last of these 10 reasons to have faith in God, is when you walk with the Lord, you see how He makes the impossible, possible. You will see His favour was upon you and how He had his hand upon you during situations you didn’t understand at the time. And you will be in awe of who He is and how keeping Him close has so greatly benefited your life.
A life of faith in God is truly fulfilling and purposeful. He truly is faithful, and His goodness is even greater than we can comprehend.
If you have more to add to these 10 reasons to have faith in God, add them in the comments. We would love to read them.
